Nawaz Sharif Musharraf Deal

Pakistandeal.com will also acknowledge you about a well known deal which was made between Pervez Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif in 1999.

On October 1999 Sharif attempted to remove Pakistan Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf and wanted to appoint Ziauddin in his place but he failed to do so. When Musharraf came to know about all this he contacted top Pakistan Army Generals who then took over the country and ousted Sharif's administration.

The military court of Pakistan convicted Nawaz Sharif and gave him a life sentence. Then in 1999 a Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf deal was made.

Under an agreement made in 1999 for Sharif, in which Saudi Arabia also played a part. Sharif was placed in exile for the next 10 years in Saudia Arabia. According to Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf deal, Sharif was not allowed to visit Pakistan and take part in any political activity for ten years and he has to live in Saudi Arabia under political restrictions.

Pervez musharraf took the charge of government and officially became head of the Pakistani state on 20 June 2001. Nawaz Sharif in August 2007 returned from exile to contest planned elections which were held in February 2008 after many delays.

The PML (Nawaz Sharif political party) emerged from those elections with the second highest number of MPs, behind the People's Party of Pakistan. Both the parties PML and PPP decided coalition to challange pro-Musharraf parties.
